Pimping my drawings and other life choices
An edition about the things I have done and a lot of crap I've accumulated
HELLO AND WELCOME TO A NEW EDITION OF MY NEWSLETTER!
Glad to write again, guys! Like other editions, I begin updating my RELEASE SCHEDULE.
Recently I signed and I’m working on a 5 issues of a 10-issue limited series, basically continuing and finishing the story initiated by a good friend, and right now I am negotiating a miniseries for a publisher I never worked with before, and with a writer I really admire. This can be a really cool project. But at best, I’m pretty sure these comic-books will not be published until next Fall.
So I’m not sure if you will see more new stuff until 2024 is really drawn. There is a book I’ve illustrated for a digital publisher that I don’t know when will be released, so I couldn’t consider a comic-book (but if you like comics you will love it)
Meanwhile, you have all the works I’ve published during 2023, and I think it’s a good handful of varied stories.
2023 releases:
FAHRENHEIT 451 graphic novel (in Spain, hope in other countries next year or so).
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: MASTERVERSE story with Tim Seeley, compilated in paperback.
TALES FROM NOTTINGHAM #6 written by Magdalene Visaggio.
INFINITY AFTERMATH graphic novel written by me, with art by Pedro Andreo.
And you have these two Dark Horse graphic novels:
ELIXIR graphic novel with Frank Barbiere and Ricky Mammone.
PROJECT MONARCH with Mike Oeming.
And in digital and paying what you want:
PARANOIA KILLER: VIRYA and the PARANOIA KILLER COMPILATION (I hope I get a publisher for a paper edition but if I get it, surely you will not see it until 2025)
SIGNED/SKETCHED BOOKS AND ORIGINAL ART FOR SALE
This past summer I finished my contract with the French gallery which sells my pages and recovered all my art. My relationship with them was excellent but we had been working for several years and I felt I needed to do things in a different way. I understand it was a little confusing because I have been selling art from different sources and my plan is to concentrate all in the same place. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with these original pages from Polar, Bad Girls and others (my recent books have been done all in digital).
I have the options of looking for a new dealer or selling them myself. Selling myself can be a lot of work, but of course, I don't need to pay a percentage to anyone. Not sure yet but meanwhile I’m going to do a little experiment: Like I do not have any exclusivity agreement anymore and I had to activate (and pay) my Bigcartel store for the Inktober, I’m going to sell some stuff there during November-December. Mainly signed books and original art in little format. Let’s see how it works and maybe this could be the place for my original comic pages. Or maybe new sketchbooks/blank covers and prints in the future if the store goes well and I’m not overwhelmed by its management.
So take a look at the store from time to time (I think you can activate alerts on this kind of sites) or check my newsletter and my social media for updates. If you couldn’t get one of my Inktober pieces surely you could find something cool there, or some signed book for a Christmas gift.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Things I have been reading and watching recently:
I received the second book of the Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror second omnibus in time for Halloween. What a delicious read! And like in the first volume, it’s super-interesting to see how artists with a different graphic approach to the animated show recreates this immortal family. In this volume you can find the art of creators so different like Terry Moore, Kyle Baker, Dan Brereton or Pia Guerra.
I saw the 2022 remake of Hellraiser in SkyShowtime and must say I found it excellent. If you see Imdb (I don’t know why I still punishing myself by checking the reviews) you will see a lot of awful comments. Honestly, if the problem is the gender of the main characters, fuck the reviewers. I love the Cenobites’ redesign (never were so extremely sexy) and how the director has updated Clive Barker’s mythology. Jamie Clayton is a scary but sensual Pinhead (sorry mr. Barker, I reminded you hate this nickname, she’s a wonderful Hell Priest).
And more comics, I recently finished the Spanish edition of the third part of Matt Wagner’s Mage Trilogy, The Hero Denied (I had read it previously in English in digital). In fact, I re-read all the trilogy in a couple of weeks. If you don't know this work, it’s formed by three volumes originally published as 15 comic-books limited series, basically it’s a series of 45 issues or 3 thick books. The point is Wagner has been writing and drawing each part of the story in different stages of his life, so the first part (The Hero Discovered) was released in 1989, the second (The Hero Defined) in 1999 and the third and last (The Hero Denied) in 2019. It’s an urban fantasy adventure story but Wagner adds elements from his own life, and besides the quality of the story, it’s an unique experience to see how the same author faces making a comic from the youth, the mastery and the maturity of his own craft.
I have my own “Trinity of Heroes”, creators who have influenced my work, and in this pantheon I have these three main figures (my Zeus/Poseidon/Hades): Frank Miller, Bruce Timm and Matt Wagner (very close to them you can find Jack Kirby, Mike Mignola and Akira Toriyama). Wagner surely is the most underrated of them, but I put him in the same level as the other two. I was very lucky he was so nice to write a cover blurb for my latest Polar book and I buy everything he does. I’m sure if you try with his Mage or Grendel books, you will never feel disappointed.
And that’s all! See you soon in the next edition of my newsletter!
