Faking the moon landing and other bad ideas
An edition about oncoming conspiracy books, mutable schedules and TV noir
WELCOME TO A NEW EDITION OF MY NEWSLETTER
February is almost finished and editors are knocking on my door, claiming for their payments in advance. Let’s begin!
SURRENDER TO THE BEAST!
You surely noticed, but I’m back on social media again. I really needed this little rest of more than two months but work is work, and an independent creator needs social media to promote the books and establish fluent communication with the readers (and potential readers). And honestly, publishers demand for it, a grade of commitment is right now part of the deal, sometimes even more important than the interviews or the signing sessions. So here I am, cyberverse (what an old term!). BUT I think I have learnt from this disconnection, and the plan is having things under control. Posting while I’m working but never connecting during my free time. And no apps in my phone (which it’s a pain in the ass with Instagram but well, right now I consider this their problem)
THINGS TO COME
I have some books announcements. The latest, a graphic novel I have made with my good friend Mike Oeming, PROJECT MONARCH. You can read the news HERE.
Legendary film director Stanley Bowman has been indoctrinated into a Faustian deal that has ruined his life. He faked the moon landing, manipulated viral celebrity meltdowns, and filmed dozens of conspiracies to serve the goals of the Illuminati. But his loyalty gets called into question when he is forced to create an occult film so powerful the public will fall under complete control. Only his adopted child-star assassins can save him, his family, and expose the truth.
And I’m also working on a new PARANOIA KILLER one-shot! I understand that following my work it can be a little complicated, so I’m going to make things clear with a schedule with the releases I’ll be updating when new announcements are made.

NEW COMMISSION
I recently made a Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner commission. The client asked for a lot of elements and the challenge was to balance them:
RECOMMENDATIONS
I have seen a lot of different TV shows and my first intention was to talk about what I disliked (I had a disappointment with the second season of a couple of shows I really loved how they began) but honestly, I prefer to focus on things that I like and make me happy. And I love crime shows. I recently watched the 4th season of Fargo. I read some bad reviews about this season but guys, I think this show it’s terrific, every season is brilliant. It’s well done, well written in its particular way (you need to watch it with an open mind to accept the bizarre and the unexpected). The kind of show you are waiting for all day. Seriously, when something it’s so well done, it’s so enjoyable… It's creating real happiness. You have this comfort at the end of the day, No matter how rough your day was, you have this happy ending. Like a good meal or a good book you are reading in bed. And right now, this is something to value.
Surely I’m the last horse crossing the finish line, but recently Disney+ Spain released the three seasons of the Australian show Mr. Inbetween and I fell in love with the story, the actors and how it is made. It’s an extremely cheap show but really well written. What I want to highlight is the synthesis. It's a show of basically 2o minutes per episode and a lot of things happen! And at the same time it has its own quiet pace. Dialogues are simple, but sharp as a razorblade and they say so many things with so few words. I think this show deserved a lot more credit. And Scott Ryan is so good! He and his fucking scary smile.
About movies, I saw RRR on Netflix. It’s an epic story with an amalgam of all the genres you can imagine. It has romance, bromance, comedy, action, nationalist epic, you jump from a dance competition to a Hong-Kong heroic bloodshed shoot-out to a fight with a tiger… It’s hard to explain, because I am not an expert of Indian movies, and there you have different industries with different languages and a different and complex star system… But it’s simply a show of epic proportion to enjoy. I must say I detected a kind of irritating condescension amongst Western critics. Some of them recommend the movie as a “laughable bad film”, even I read the disgusting expression “Third World-fun”.
I mean, I think it’s an excellent movie but it works in its own context, its own rules, the rules of its cinematic culture. Like the Hong Kong movies of the 90s or the Korean dramas, they have their own story structure, and actors play the way they connect with their audience. And maybe it looks exaggerated or over-dramatic for us, but I think we couldn’t expect the movies or TV shows from all the world to adapt to the template of Hollywood cinema. And I’m sure the viewers from India don’t think they are watching laughable crap. So simply don’t be a smart-ass, enjoy and dance the Naatu Naatu (if you are fit).
And that’s all!
See you in a couple of weeks with a new Ginger revenges story!
